
What is an immigration quota?
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine establishes an annual immigration quota for certain categories of citizens in the framework of the Ukrainian Immigration Law. Such categories may include, among others, scientists and cultural figures, investors in Ukraine's economy, and highly qualified specialists whose urgent need is significant for Ukraine's economy. Such specialists in the field of IT-technology are the need of Ukraine nowadays, according to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Simply put, if a person has education and/or experience in the field of information technology, while being a foreigner, he/she may receive a permission to immigrate to Ukraine for 10 years. But the number of such permits is limited to five thousand, and this number is distributed by regions and specialities.
What does the immigration permit entitle a person to?
An immigration permit entitles the holder to a permanent residence permit in Ukraine, which is granted for a period of 10 years and entitles the holder to unlimited crossing of the Ukrainian border, to work without a work permit, and to immigrate to Ukraine with his/her family. In other words, with a permanent residence permit a foreigner receives practically all the possibilities of a Ukrainian citizen.
